Applications are invited for a lecturer in probability with expertise in financial mathematics at the University of Manchester within the Probability and Statistics Group. Applications are sought from individuals who will help build the School's expertise and capacity in probability with application to financial mathematics, both through teaching (at undergraduate and postgraduate level) and research (including the supervision of PhD students). At present the School has several permanent members of staff, based in the Probability and Statistics Group and Applied Mathematics Group, with significant interests in financial mathematics, and also has close links with Manchester Business School.
The main duties of the post will lie in teaching and research. The former will include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students by means of lectures, seminars, tutorials and examples classes, continually developing teaching material and learning experiences for students and acting as personal tutor to undergraduate students in accordance with the School’s current practice.
Research will involve undertaking research of high-quality in collaboration with colleagues and publishing the results in world-leading journals, books or similar organs and making applications for research grants and funding
Candidates should have a PhD, or equivalent relevant experience, and are expected to be an internationally recognised researcher in a relevant area of probability, with expertise in financial mathematics or, if in an earlier career stage, to show exceptional promise and ability. Also required are a record of original high-impact research that has won international recognition, as evidenced by publications in internationally-leading journals and a willingness and ablity to supervise postgraduate research students and undertake interdisciplinary research.
