Job Description
Our Client are becoming increasingly recognised as a world class provider of engineering services to the utility sector and wider markets, working primarily with electricity distribution networks.
In this job you will work on Electricity Substations up to 132KV. You will be an integral member of a mobile workforce and will work on all aspects of substation equipment as required, demonstrating a flexible approach to work and its completion so as to minimise cost.
You will also be responsible for ensuring the continued safe and reliable operation of the electricity transmission network through the efficient maintenance of substation assets and provide support and assistance to a Delivery Engineer, ensuring the effective day-day utilisation of resources and prioritisation of work within the tasks and projects allocated.
You will be in charge of leading a team within a field environment to deliver work as directed by the Delivery Engineer / Manager. Typically you will manage multiple tasks concurrently at various locations, with large numbers of staff of mixed ability, including contractors.
Other duties will include undertaking a range of duties on plant and equipment which may include maintenance, site delivery of projects, commissioning, complex fault investigation and repair. You will manage safety implementation and monitoring, supervising internal and monitoring external staff to ensure optimum efficiency, cost effectiveness and safety.
To be considered for this role you must be able to work in the UK without restriction, therefore candidates out with the EU that do not have a minimum of a Tier 1 visa coupled with 3-5 years demonstrable experience in a similar role within the UK market need not apply.
You will have a minimum of HNC or equivalent in an electrical or mechanical discipline, with qualifications leading to membership of IET or similar professional body. A full UK driving license is also required.
In addition, you must be able to demonstrate experience in Substations work and/or on HV cable systems. You will have an in depth technical knowledge relating to the electrical and safety aspects of Substation main plant and / or protection equipment, together with fault-finding expertise and Plant analysis. Environmental knowledge and experience is also required in respect of day-to-day duties, together with proven ability to respond to emergency situations.
Due to the nature of the role you will need to be competent in planning, people-management, communicating and supervising, in order to lead large groups of staff and to achieve efficient completion of tasks. You will also have demonstrable skills in expenditure management and control of budgets.
It is an advantage to hold Senior Authorised Person status and a NEBOSH Certificate, with the ability to co-ordinate routine or emergency response work within this safety critical environment across a large range of equipment. The ability to commission equipment to recognised standards and procedures is also preferable with demonstrable experience in project delivery.
